Meet Carey
Carey Beth Hockett is an educator, composer, and cellist fascinated by how we learn.
A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, her principal professional homes have been Ithaca Talent Education, the London Suzuki Group, and the Colburn School in Los Angeles. She has trained teachers around the world and has been actively involved in leadership within national and international Suzuki organizations.
Carey is particularly known for her work in group teaching and teacher development. She composes and arranges music for young musicians and creates practical resources that encourage teachers to experiment, reflect, and continue learning themselves.
She continues to teach, compose, create, and ask questions—particularly about what in music education is worth preserving, what might benefit from changing, and how we can tell the difference.
When she isn’t doing any of those things, she is probably playing pickleball, with an unofficial 2.5 DUPR rating.
