Creative Designs for Music Education

Have you ever noticed that much printed music is NOT laid out in a way which encourages efficient and productive practice?  When I introduce a new piece to a pupil I like to mark sections which are easy to digest and musically complete enough to make sense: either phrases or groups of phrases.  These sections can be indicated by pencil lines, or letters or numbers, or symbols, or stickers. If a section is repeated I draw a very light pencil squiggle over it to remind the pupil that he doesn't have to practice it again.

BUILDING BLOCK EDITIONS do exactly this.  Each different bit of music is presented once, sometimes followed by a plan of how you put the parts together to make the whole piece.  Examples follow, and PDFs are available from the
Download Center,  but remember that we can easily create BUILDING BLOCK EDITIONS to your specifications.  Just contact us!

The Happy Farmer, by Schumann, has an odd arrangement of phases and pickup notes which are often separated from the phrases that they belong to.  How about turning the piece into a fruit salad?

And if we turn Mr. Handel into a city planner, he might come up with this:
